3DM develops and manufactures scanners for a number of different applications. These devices are based on laser triangulation and provide 2 dimensional profiles of objects to accuracies better than +/- 1mm at speeds of 50,000 points per second and more. These scanners are sold on an OEM basis to our customers in forestry and clinical markets. We welcome inquiries from potential users in other market areas for these products.

A laser line generator projects an illuminating line onto the object to be measured. A CCD camera images the projected line as a 2D camera image with the laser appearing as a bright line. |

This provides a 2D profile at the cross section defined by the projected laser line. A 3D representation is built up by moving either the object or the laser and camera in a controlled manner to provide multiple parallel profiles, or 'slices', which are combined to form a complete 3-D representation of the object.
