Hydra RT Monitor


The RT Monitor system provides real time measurement and checking of critical dimensions on production extrusion, molding and roll forming lines. Full 360 degree coverage of complex parts is provided using multiple sensors operating at sample rates of 10 to 20 full profiles per second with typically 2000 XY data points per profile. Powerful pattern matching and comparison software is included and operates in real time analysing each profile, checking to user tolerances, providing visual feedback of warning and error conditions, generating customised QC reports and optional relay output for automatic line shutdown.

The Monitor optical scanners sit around the production line and continuously acquire profile data. The system is insensitive to part movement between scans as the software automatically tracks and re-aligns the comparison data on every scan.

The system is designed for ease of use and rapid changing between different part profiles.

Two levels of inspection are provided -

    "Global Inspection" for quick set-up of new parts and comparison of overall part form to a single tolerance level.

    "Feature Inspection" for more detailed review of specific dimensions and tolerances. This allows user interaction to set up new parts and specify the reports required.

The placement of the scanner heads around the part is configured to provide the best illumination and viewing of the features to be inspected. Standard sensing regions are 3" and 5" diameter, and 4" x 6" and 4" x 8" rectangles, but the configuration is scalable and any reasonable size part can be accommodated. A 3 to 5 sensor arrangement is usually adequate for most tasks. A single factory recommended configuration typically meets most requirements, but the user can change the physical arrangement to meet specific inspection needs and this is fully supported in the software supplied.

FUNCTIONALITY

Inspection is performed by comparison to a CAD file in dxf format. Set up of "Global Inspection" for a new part is a simple one-time operation. The user selects the dxf file and the system software automatically generates the "pattern file" for alignment, matching and comparison to the as-scanned part data. The 'pattern file' is stored for future reference as required. "Global Inspection" uses a single tolerance to identify any feature out of specification on the whole part and visually indicates these areas to the user in real time on the screen. A typical "Global Inspection" tolerance on molded wood parts would be +/- 0.005" overall.

"Feature Inspection" is in addition to "Global Inspection" and provides the user with identification and tolerancing on a per feature basis. The user identifies key dimensions such as diameters, radii, length, width etc., applies a tolerance level to each of these, and using a straightforward script utility builds a more detailed inspection table for the part. This is updated in real time as the part is scanned. Warning and error levels can be attached to each feature and appropriate reports or annunciation output provided in response by the system
